Garanos ("GAIR-uh-nos" or "GAH-rah-nos")
Hailing from a far nothern region called Caywien, Garanos has been on the trail of a band of mercenaries who abducted her fiance. Despite being a member of nobility in her home land, she is surprisingly tough and self-sufficient; she holds a rank equivalent to soldier in her society, and can use limited amounts of magic useful on the battlefield.

Styx
Styx was born in Severdon, a large coastal town to the southwest of Kaigan, but came to live in the small town when he was very young, as a result of his mother being on the run from gangsters. He and his mother were found on the outskirts of Kaigan by Maryoku, the town's healer, who took them into her house, where Styx's mother died soon after. Styx holds a deep respect for Maryoku, and since she essentially raised him, considers her his surrogate mother. He works as an apprentice under her to learn her skills in healing.

Lucas
Lucas is Styx's best friend, and works as a carpenter in Kaigan. He was also originally from Severdon, but didn't make the move to Kaigan until he had finished his apprenticeship under a carpenter in his hometown. He is often bored by the goings-on of small-town Kaigan, and tries to find entertainment wherever and whenever he can.

Maryoku ("MareeOH-koo")
Maryoku presides over the House of Shamans, the largest house in Kaigan, and serves as the town's de facto healer and doctor. She is a very powerful mage, skilled in healing and life magic, and as such she is much older than she appears to be. The entire city looks up to her, and as such she tends to take on the role of town leader and advisor as well.
