And that’s that for 2008. I completed 98 pages this year! Not bad at all, considering the hiatus and various other breaks I’ve taken this year.
I’m trying yet another new trick with coloring that will, and already has, saved me a shit-ton of time with coloring. I finished the shading for this page in about two and a half hours; it usually takes around twice as long. I used this technique on Monday’s page, but did a weird thing and ended up making it look Barbara-Walters-soft. I like the coloring on today’s page much better, so I’ll probably redo the shading on 307 at some point so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. (Like it does now.)
The next update will be on Monday, January 5th. It’s not at all feasible for me to update this Friday, since I’ll be out of town yet again and haven’t had the time to get ahead on pages like I did for last week’s pages. Everyone have a great New Year’s Eve, make with the merry, and I’ll see you on the other side. I forsee 2009 being a good year for Garanos. ^_^

Oooohh….nice glowy ambient light. Now I wanna get a flashlight and hold it under my face!
Something else I noticed, since the the source of light is underneath, the “specular” in the characters’ eyes needs to be pointing down- towards the light, not in the upper right or upper left (i.e. pointing to where the sun would normally be) It’s a subtle detail, but would make the underlighting much more convincing…..
well I hope ’09 does go well for you. I have sneaking suspicion that I won’t be about as much as I would like to support you, but I look forward to doing big catch up sessions every few months. Good luck with it all!
In regards to the eye speculars, I prefer to keep the eyes shaded in a formulaic way. I’ve tried realistic shading of eyes in the way you’ve described, but it just looks weird to me when I’m so used to eyes being drawn the same way, with no regard to lighting conditions. ^_^; So it’s simply my own personal preference. Take that, physics!
It’s worked for anime for the last seven decades, so it works for me.
Sweet! I get an udpate for my birthday. I like do like the “underglow” effect here from the low light source. It really makes it feel very real.
