I’ve been mulling over this idea for about a week or two. If I were to offer original sketches of certain pages of the comic, would anyone be interested in buying them? I’m thinking chapter covers and other various splash pages, but I’m open to offering actual laid-out comic pages as well, if there’s any interest.
I’ve got two jumbo binders full of the original sketches for every page of Garanos so far, and I know I’m probably not going to have much use for them once the comic is over.
The price point I had in mind was $25 per piece. Does this sound fair? What about an option to include a print of the final colored page?
All feedback on this idea would be appreciated. ^_^

If you do sell them, take pictures of them or scan them so you have them! I’d be tempted.
The cover is definitely a wonderful design. It definitely captures the mood.
You should offer caricatures of people standing next to Garanos.
I would definitely be tempted if you listed them. How would you mail them? Tube?
I think the price can probably vary on the size and complexity, and how filled in the art is before you go all digital on it.
All the comic pages are drawn on letter-sized paper, so they’re small enough to ship flat.
hey alex,
i think the demand would be based more on popularity of the pages / content than on the quality of the artwork. what i mean is, your art is fantastic. who wouldn’t want it on their wall? crazy people, that’s who. even blind people want compliments on their taste in art.
i think that the best thing you could do for this would be to let people pick a page that they like, and then let them buy that as a print with a copy of the original sketch as an extra mini-purchase.
in example, i love page 11. i would love to purchase a print of page 11, and a copy of the sketch as well. i would gladly pay between $5 and $15 for the print, plus an additional $5 to $10 or so for a [copy] of the sketch. i would not like the sketch on its own, without the print as context. personal taste.
of course, for a signed copy of the [actual original sketch], i would expect to pay a bit more. in that respect, i think $25 is very reasonable.
either way, i think a print of the posted art would go hand-in-hand with the sketch, and increase the market value of the pieces together.
just a thought, sorry it was so long.
Interested? Absolutely! Able? Not at the moment. The addition of a print of the final version of the page would really make the deal, as the two would look good side by side in one frame. I think stonetree’s ideas above have definite merit, though I suspect offering prints of the sketches may reduce interest in the originals somewhat. Not sure if that’s really an issue, though.
