I would guess that he ritual will actually increase Garanos’s power. Since he is rather dead and she has his powers (at least partially), trying to “awaken” him should probably give her a certain boost and allow her to evade/fight her way out of captivity.
So all that remains to be seen is what will Ether do that will deprive him of her love. He seems to have fallen (claiming in the previous page that “She should not have come” and having a completely beaten down attitude), but I would again guess that he did something to betray her and thus does not deserve her love any more (allowing room for Styx).
@Harbringer: I certainly hope not. I’m after fantasy, not a soap opera.
Her fiance thinks he’s about to watch her get turned into a monster. Before this, he was held captive by the large psycho lady and her minions. I think we can excuse him if he’s not exactly performing at 100% here.
The big problem I have is that it feels like people are starting to hate her fiance simply on the grounds that he’s had less screen time than Styx. Styx is a nice guy who has had a lot of time to win our sympathy on-screen, while Ethreden has been relegated to an off-screen role by the plot. Based on what we saw in the flashback sequences, Ethreden is a pretty nice guy too. He needs to think a little before he speaks, but you could say the same about Styx.
Besides, Styx lost a lot of sympathy from me when I realized his plan is basically to hope Garanos’ fiance dies so he can have a chance to make his move.
Hmm … It’s interesting to see that the most vocal folks seem to side with Styx over Ethreden. Frankly, though, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens, whether Ethreden can accept Garanos with the powers she has gained since they last were together. I certainly don’t expect a perfect “happy ending” … it would not fit the bittersweet tones of the tale. Everyone in this story is hurting in some way (even Gharsena, one might suppose, due to the loss of her son), which is why it’s so very easy to relate to the characters. Let us see where this leads …
She is going to be *pissed* when she finds out Harbringer’s already dead…
@ Sabreur
>_< Let's not imagine what will happen then…
