Sage advice from Captian Zellen. Sage advice indeed. A rescue attempt is impossible now. They should flee while they can, and then once Garanos learns “the destroyer’s” powers and masters them, MAYBE a rescue can be attempted. MAYBE.
I like to think of myself as a nice, calm, rational individual. Somebody who can analyze any situation logically and come up with an appropriate situation. This comic shattered that illusion.
Forget logic and tactics. We have a living flamethrower and Garanos. Kill everyone, burn everything, save the fiance, go home happy.
@ Sabreur: To an extent, I totally agree, but I think that would only work on a smaller scale. This cult appears to be fairly massive. There’s only a handful of our protagonists, Gara is practiced with her new abilities, Geilen is still an unknown variable, etc. With this much uncertainty, it is best to regroup and await a better opportunity.
First, I agree with Aquila: the logical conclusion is that regrouping will mostly help the antagonists in this case – who has an ARMY to organize not just a few random individuals and were caught by surprise when Garanos released herself. Moreover, Garanos had an unexpected ally with considerable power – the Red Moth – which was ALSO a surprise attack on Gharsena. Seems to me, this is the MOST suitable time to attack not retreat.
But let’s say for argument’s sake that Gharsena have the upper hand in this situation (she have not only her considerable black magic powers, possibly unlimited supply of zealots as well as zombies…) and that the Red Moth just knows better (She happens to have knowledge that the reader does not, obviously).
What REALLY bothers me, is that Garanos is so willing to leave Ethreden behind! 1. where is the emotional response? 2. logical calculation dictates that now Gharsena DOES NOT HAVE ANY REASON to keep him alive even… if the harbinger is indeed dead she doesn’t need Etherden alive as a lure any longer…
@ Harbinger:
I think her reasons for retreating without Ethreden are solid:
1) She hasn’t seen Ethreden for months so the emotional bond isn’t so strong,
2) She now has to think about the safety of the people who came with her, and
3) She has been told that the best course is to leave by someone who has better intelligence on the enemy than she does.
I, also, think I know why the Red Moth wants her to leave now… I think that whether or not she wins this battle, if she took the time to rescue Ethreden (remember the Red Moth has hurried her along on more than one occasion) Gharsena, or her minions, would sink the ship (or the red moth would not have been able to get the captain before he cast off, and I don’t think a firey being could travel across much water). I suspect that Gharsena’s troops are still causing damage on the mainland and that Gharsena’s magic allows her to direct her troops from afar. In short, if she stopped to rescue Ethreden, I believe that the best asset against Gharsena would be stuck on the island and Gharsena’s troops would still be causing havoc.
Gharsena cannot direct her troops from a distance. this has been proven. because hte mercs had to RETURN to Gharsena before they could be sent back out. This was earlier on, remember?

Ok, just as I read this the radio started playing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by The Rolling Stones.

Also, love the lighting on the 3rd panel. =3
I’m with Sabreur. Why wait until the cult leader can lure in some more zealots?

Still 9 pages to go in this chapter… ;)

Again, nobody but me will likely see this, BUT…..
