See? She left her alive, and now Geilen can hold a knife to his throat. This is what happens when you leave enemies alive/conscious/responsive BEHIND you. Comes back to bite you in the same behind!

Well, crap. I hate hostage situations.

Surrender or he dies, or surrender and watch him die. Not much of a choice.

Mignht I suggest a counter proposal: Ask them who they will hide behind if they kill him. Then calmly walk over, pop the out the extra limbs, and eviserate the leader.

p.s. Try to keep the leader alive and screaming for the next phase of negotiations where you suggest to the followers that it might be a good time to drop their weapons and leave quietly.

We’ve been here before, she DID surrender herself to Ghersena’s minions for the sake of a companion, and they tried to kill him anyway. The only reason they failed is that the Devourer’s limbs manifested and turned them into human-kabobs. That’s not going to work this time. It might be a good idea to tell Gailen that this cult has a history of not keeping its promises when it comes to sparing or aiding people, and that any “cure” is just a lie. It would also be a good thing to say, “this isn’t the first time your people tried this approach, and I know you will kill my fiancee anyway. Should that happen, there is no power on this world that will keep me from hunting down and killing every last one of you. Here’s my counter- proposal. Release my fiance, and let us walk away. Maybe, just maybe, I might forget everything you’ve done.”

nope, enemies such as this cult are not working from common logic. the best thing to do is get the moth to get Gilian from behind and thus free the hostage while the 4 attack from the front. this type of cult is the rabid type that is best cut down as fast and deadly as possible, preferably from the head down.

That said, I really must agree with MysticalMage. Really love the dress…

  8. Slamlander

Azure; Ethredin is her husband IIRC. They are already married.
Kez: Are you ever going back to more than once per week on Winds?

Yes I agree, letting Geilin live was stupid.

  9. Fesworks

I still have a certain hope for Geilen and this situation. I won’t say exactly what it is, so I can still hope a certain something will happen.

@Slamlander…. I thought they were merely engaged… and not quite yet married, and that they would be when Garanos became queen? (i really forget).

The awesomeness of this page was only increased by the fact that “Autumn in Ganymede” by The Seatbelts came on just as the page loaded.

You’re right on the engagement, Fes. The back of book 1 states mentions Ethreden as Gara’s fiancé.

Agreed on the dress, Mystycal. I’ve always rather liked Alex’s wardrobe designs, though I think I’d not look near as good in the dress — ain’t got the gender for it.

i really expected Ethreden to look a bit older…. maybe a little more handsome and, idk, knightly i guess? sure the malnourishment has something to do with it, but still… i didn’t expect him to be… puny.

I’m almost surprised that a) Geilen is back on her feet, and b) Gharsena didn’t just outright kill her for failing to stop Garanos. But I suppose she needed her alive for some good ol’ hostage-grabbing.

@Azure – the good guys ALWAYS surrender in hostage situations. risking the life of the innocent for your benefit is not the “light side’s” way. that being said, even though the bad guys are never honorable and never keeps their promises and the good guys knows this.

So my bet is on Garanos surrendering, only to be betrayed by Gharsena (A “muahahaha, I’ll still kill him even though you have surrendered” situation).

On the critical moment where all is lost, surprising help will arrive (probably a change of heart on Geilen’s part, as Fesworks seems to be suggesting. this is a classical chance for redemption for the evil traitor when she figures out she won’t be helped or even without it – that she won’t be able to live with herself after betraying her friends)

So let’s see if the classics will happen or something different will unravel. I have been wrong before :P

Best bet is to act like you’re surrendering and kill them both.

Wasn’t Gharshena a goddess or demi-goddess or demon of some sorts? Would explain the difference in height.

  18. Azure

Ghershena is definitely someone immensely skilled with magic. Someone whom Garanos has no hope against. Garanos only escaped because Ghershena was taken by surprise, both by the lack of Devourer manifestation, and by the Red Moth directly opposing her assault spell. If Garanos goes after the cult now, she will die horribly and so will all her friends.

I agree, her only chance is to go with weird beard, if garanos gose with ghershena, she will surely die, along with her boy, if she leave’s, she live’s to another day to avenge her lovers death.
