My guess is, because the disease has taken Geilen’s hands and arms, Gharsena can control what those hands and arms could do so, when Geilen tries to stab her, she could make Geilen stab herself.
Even if Geilen survives and tries to attack without using her hands and arms, she needs them to be in the correct position to counter balance any moves she makes.
Well, coming at the Evil One with ones arms back is foolish–it takes too much effort to bring them forward when the time to use the weapons is “at hand”. No wonder the Evil One is so calm. The momentum forward should have been powered by the forward thrust of her daggers toward the Evil One’s heart.
Leading an attack with ones head as opposed to ones weapons is folly.
@Daniel, you DON’T RUN or LEAP with daggers in front of you. The chance that you will LAND ON THEM is too high. Geilen’s motion is in fact the correct stance, it’s a short and simple motion to bring them on the target’s sides and disembowel a foe.
Yeah, Ethreden looks like he’s on his way out. But at least Geilen didn’t slit his throat. Hey, there’s a chance that they can all escape on the boat together!
Daniel: Don’t forget that you also need a long swinging arc to build up momentum. The longer your swing, the faster you do it, the harder your strike will land.
That, and running with your arms behind you means less wind-resistance, means you go faster, means even more speed for your strikes.
The only reason to keep your weapons in front of you is to defend yourself, and I’m not sure Geilen cares much for that right now, savage little berserker that she is.
Actually I’m wondering why she didn’t just throw a dagger at the woman. Also running in like that is a quick way to have your head cut off. Most foot soldiers used spears or some other pole-arm back before muskets came into play. Swords, axes, knives, and maces were drawn after the battle got going or when the pole-arm broke, and that was if you could afford another weapon. Really there isn’t much of a reason to run at her anyway. she’s less than two yards away and a quick thrust or throw would bring her into arms reach rather quickly,
