AAAAAAAH I’M SO EXCITEDDDD. You hold her waist, Styx! You claim your woman!
…
I don’t know if I want her to be with him or to go along with her entire goal of saving Ethreden… D:
she is married and loves her husband. why cheer on styx?
she can love more than one person in her life, but thats not the same as deciding to commit to live together in marriage. the difference is what separates loving friendship from betrayal.
Nihau, she’s not married, YET! And the engangement to Ethreden was arranged at birth. Sure, there’s SOME attraction and mutual respect, but it’s not like she CHOSE him or vise versa. There’s also that whole “your country will fall apart due to political infighting if you don’t get him home” thing going on.
Well, there won’t be any political repurcussions, I suspect, should Ethreden not get home, but there is the emotional repurcussion of the goal itself. While on one hand, it has lately become clear that she has feelings for Styx, it is also clear that she is still holding on to Ethreden. The question to be asked, is whether what she holds onto for Ethreden is real, and not something that was born of resignation. Moreover, she might ask, who she wants more. There is also the fact that quite honestly, Ethreden may still not survive the upcoming conflict – these things do happen. Indeed, Styx may not survive what comes next, given the circumtances. Garanos is going into conflict with a demon, and demons play on a strong enemy’s great weaknesses, and Garanos has -two- such weak points present. Their names are Styx and Ethreden.
Shadow and Flame? Hm… you just sparked my inner Tolkienite. Is it possible the name was inspired by Lord of the Rings there? Or it could be just a coincidence…
And is it just me or is Styx in the possision where the damsel should be and Gara in the possision the knight should be? Haha, gotta love a girl that can save herself and her man! (erm… sort of… I think Garanos should stick with poor Ethreden, but that’s just my opinion)
at the end of the day she will need to go home, to where her family is, to where her duty is waiting for her. she is still on a quest to find and reclaim her loved one, and he really is her loved one, even if she does develop feeling for other people along the way.
any trip away from home opens up the horizons- both physical and emotional. its not a good enough excuse to throw your real life away.
just like every time you go abroad to travel and meet new people – you do not suddenly decide to change citizenship and settle down in this pastoral village you just passes through, discarding your past like an old sock.
she is a princess. it carries more then social status and monetary wealth.
she has a bigger then village sized life to go back to, and with Ethreden she has a partner that is correct for her in every way- love first and then top it with all the rest as well.
Nihau, I agree with you. Ethreden’s got the crest thing that would entitle him to the throne as well; here’s hoping he hasn’t lost it / had it stolen. It’s weird, Garanos mutters “I can’t…” and then “not yet” to Styx’s plea for her, indicating some confusion in her heart. Yet Ethreden’s capture is the whole reason she met Styx, and is now in the spider’s web. Her obligation towards Caywien became more than that: it became love. Garanos has a chance to fix her mistake at home AND be with the man she fell in love with.

It almost looks like they are dancing. Or it would, except for the horrified look on Ethreden’s face.

“Shadow and Flame” seems to sound like a final chaper to me… Anyone else get the feeling we’re running out of story?
“Ring of Fire” popped into my head as soon as the page loaded :P
