I don’t understand what’s happening. Who’s sitting on the stool and the bed? Who’s fuzzy head is that in the third frame? And why is Garanos acting like this?
Jason, the guy sitting on the stool is Senberan, the mage who is engaged to Garanos’s sister. The guy with the fuzzy hair is the black guy who lead them to the Island. And Garanos’s is sad because her fiance (Ethreden) is infected just like Geilen was, meaning he will die too. Thats why she is so sad.
I love the coloring on this, it reflects the mood very well.
My guess is that Ethreden is on the bed, Senbe is on the stool tending to him, and the guy sitting on the other bed is the guy who led them onto the island (Mosind, who is also the fuzzy head). Senbe sees Gara, helps Mosind out of the room, and Styx shuts the door to give Gara some privacy while she talks to Ethreden.
As for Gara’s behavior, she fought long and hard to find her longtime fiance, only to discover that he is going to die in a few days, she’s still conflicted about Styx, and probably a couple other things I can’t think of just now. Her life is messy, and in a bad way. I’m sure I don’t get all of it, but she is not in a happy place, and when that’s where you live, you either wanna do everything or nothing at all.
I think that’s everything….somebody correct me if I’m wrong on something, but that is what I got from this page.
If I can rant a little here:
I can understand not being able to follow the action sequences or not knowing random characters popping up from thirty pages back, but why can’t people follow the basic plotline? Garanos’s fiance was last shown a few pages back suffering from a fatal illness, Garanos was just told “It’s time”, she’s upset, etc, etc. 2+2=4, people, read the comic a little.
Sorry if that comes across badly. I’m feeling a little under the weather and a bit over-dramatic. Just starting to wonder if people are randomly posting comments about things they haven’t read…
Well, that’s not it. In the first frame she’s sitting next to a bed with a grey sheet. She’s led into the room. In the second to last frame she’s sitting next to another bed with a grey sheet. It was confusing.
Bob, relax. I was confused and lost. That happens. I’ve read the entire comic series up till now and at one point emailed Alex a few months ago saying I liked her work. Your comments are a bit insulting and were unnecessary.
Except the figure sitting next to the bed in the first frame is wearing all grey and Garanos is wearing a darker grey/bluish shirt and black pants. Senbe on the other hand, is shown in all grey throughout this entire page. (Gotta admit, Senbe and Styx look similar in hair-style and such though.)
And again, I apologize if I came across badly. I’m not actually upset or anything, the “rant” was more tongue in cheek, not in anger or such.
The first and second frames is the same picture but at different perspectives (of guy in grey clothing on the stool and a guy with a sling on his arm sitting on the bed. Third frame, the guy in grey is helping the guy with the sling stand up.

I think you nailed it.
