I do not think the disease is catching. I think it was more like a curse. you had to be specifically infected to get it- like Gara got it the first time- as a form of direct attack.
a lot of people came in contact with Gillian and did not get the disease from her.
it wasn’t an epidemic in the sea-side city where she waited for gara to show up.
I suspect that the plague will only die if he’s cremated. The good guys aren’t out of the woods, yet.

Unlikely, it would have shown up in Slyx by now. Also, this is the last chapter. Unless Alex is going for a Japanese style tragedy, that would be a contra-indicated plot twist. The deaths of all main characters except the female protagonist is a cliché of almost Japanese proportions. ;)
