It’s Friday the 13th, and since I haven’t updated the news in awhile, I thought a post was in order!
I wanted to again thank everyone who donated or bought merchandise last week to help out with my hosting bill. It’s very much appreciated! I wouldn’t have solicited, but the bill just happened to be due at the same time I had to put down deposits for several conventions’ Artist Alley tables all at once, not to mention my usual bills. ^_^;
LT, a regular commenter, sent me a picture of the buttons he bought! Behold, and be envious:
As you see, I included a bonus sketch on an index card. Every order gets one of these as a bonus! ^_^ I wanted to keep them a pleasant surprise, but who knows– maybe it’ll generate a few extra purchases.
With that said, in case nobody’s checked the Conventions page recently, I’m confirmed for Animarathon, AnimePunch, Cleveland Colossal Convention, Masturicon, and Tsubasacon so far. Those are all local Ohio conventions, save for Tsubasacon, which is just over the border in West Virginia, so if you’re going to be able to make it to any of those, you should come and say hi! By Animarathon, I hope to have copies of the new Volume I to sell at-con.
I’m waiting on confirmations for Tekkoshocon and Connecticon at the moment, but it’s very likely I will be at both of those as well. ^_^ The t-shirt I took to Connecticon last year, which has the signatures of about 25 webcomic people on it, is now up on Flickr! There’s ONE signature/drawing I can’t identify, so if anyone knows who it might have been, PLEASE let me know. It’s driving me nuts.
I entered several pieces into the Toon Award Exhibition, which is a comic-oriented exhibition/event for student artists in Okoboji, Iowa. I entered a copy of the Lulu edition of Volume I, my short fairytale comic The Shepherd, and a large framed print of Garanos With Spines. I haven’t heard back, so I don’t know if any of them were accepted into the show, but if they do, I’ll probably be going out there with my mom to attend the award weekend in April, which consists of several panels, and a dinner/awards ceremony.
I’m still waiting on approval and the digital proof of the new edition of Volume I, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to order a printed copy for inspection very soon, and then be able to list it for sale. I plan on making a largeish order of books so I can have a stock of them for conventions, starting with Animarathon next month. Before I do so, I’m going to open up the opportunity for you guys to preorder a copy directly from me, which I will then sign and mail to you. Here’s a question for you: would you be willing to pay an extra few bucks (around $3-5) for a personalized edition? The bonus would be a personalized inscription and a sketch of a character of your choice, as opposed to a signature alone.
That’s about it for now! Have a good weekend, and remember to vote. ^_^
Made a few more updates to my convention schedule. I just registered for a table at SPACE, Columbus’ own indy comics show, which happens on April 18th and 19th at the Aladdin Shrine Center near Easton Town Center.
I’ll also be going to GarasuNoShiCon, a new mini-convention at Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio, right in the backyard of my old Toledo stomping grounds! More details about Garasu will come in the next few days. ^_^
Today is my birthday! I’m 23 today. (I share my birthday with Neil Sedaka and William H. Macy!) I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be doing tonight, but I will be seeing some friends, and then my mom and sister are coming to dote on me tomorrow. ^_^
Some convention things to mention!
Penguicon
I’m 99% sure I’m going to Penguicon! I’ve been talking to their very awesome webcomic programming head, and I’ll probably be serving up a Photoshop panel, and join in on some of the other webcomic programming. (Anyone want to split a hotel room?) I almost went last year, so I’m really excited to get up there this time around.
ConnectiCon
TOMORROW is the last day you’ll be able to pre-register for $35! On Sunday, the price goes up ten dollars, so if you haven’t registered for CTCon yet, do so as soon as possible. I promise, as a general attendee of Connecticon for the past two years, it is well worth it.
AnimePunch!
Time to plug my home convention again. AnimePunch is here in Columbus, and is notable for being an anime-only, college-aged convention with hours upon hours of academic programming, as well as epically awesome events. For instance, there will be Legends of the Hidden-fricking-Temple.
Preregistration is only $25, but it closes on March 27th! Can’t beat that price with a stick.
Animarathon is tomorrow! I’ll be in the Artist Alley part of the Dealer’s room, and my table will be debuting the gigantic Garanos banner that I had made.
Unfortunately, I will not have my order of Volume I books this weekend, but I will have my test copy and a Lulu copy to display if you want to check it out! I will also have a large number collection of prints and the usual keychains, buttons, and coasters. ^_^ I’m doing a special 2-for-$10 convention discount on prints as well!
Hopefully I will see some of you there. Have a good weekend!
Animarathon was, as usual, a fun event! I posted a more in-depth report over at my blog, so you should check it out.
I tend to make the biggest bank with my specialty: quick, anime-styled caricatures drawn on index cards with a Sharpie. They’re known as Dollar Drawings! Here are a few of the people I drew this year:
If you’d like to get your picture drawn, I also sell these via Etsy! Since it’s the internet and not a convention, you can also get them in color. ^_^
There’s a new voting incentive! We’re taking a trip down memory lane with some of the old old old old OLD drawings I did of Garanos back in 2002. Some of you might remember me using these images for voting before, but I figure all the more recent readers deserve to see my old, embarrassing art as well!
I’m back from Tekkoshocon! TWO GARANOS FANS FOUND ME! Two whole fans! That seriously made my day.
You can read the rest of my con report over at my blog, as usual. ^_^
Pages 347 and 348 (Monday and Wednesday) are the last pages of Part Thirteen! I decided to take Friday off from updating, so Part Fourteen will start on Monday with the chapter page. This also gives me a bit more leeway since AnimePunch is this weekend, and I will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off this week, doing last minute con preparations.
Last month, I learned that completely disrupting my continuity was all I needed to do to get attention. I also learned that fanservicey voting incentives get me a shit-ton of votes! :D
In that spirit, to start off strong in the month of May, today’s voting incentive is Geilen as an Orion Slave Girl. Something quick and dirty (hurr hurr) I whipped up earlier this week especially for this.

Today kicks off the first day of Penguicon! I’ve also added two more possible conventions to my schedule for this year: Toonfest in Marceline, Missouri, which is a one-day event in Walt Disney’s childhood home; and the National Caricature Network’s annual convention, which is surprisingly close, just up in Sandusky, Ohio. I found out a lot about both of these cons from the cartoonists at the Toon Award last weekend, so I hope I can make it to them to do more networking. ^_^
Have a great weekend!
My con reports for Marcon and GarasuNoShiCon are now up!
Now for some shout-outs:
Red Moon Rising is now a fellow member of the Rampage Network! I know we read each other’s comics, so I wanted to mention it. ^_^
I was table neighbors with Melody of Full Steam Ahead at GarasuNoShiCon, too! Her art is awesome, so you should check out her comics.
I’ll be at ColossalCon this weekend, at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. Come visit me in the Artist Alley, or at my Photoshop panel! It’s Friday at 7 PM in Panel Room 2.
PHEW. Okay. Now that ColossalCon is over, this convention binge is officially OVER! That’s 9 cons in 11 weeks! Yowza.
My con report for ColossalCon is now up! It was an awesome con, and definitely a good note to end on!
My next convention isn’t until ConnectiCon, which is just under two months away. The break will be nice, but at the same time, I can’t wait! I’m looking forward to it so much. I plan for it to rock hard this year in a big way.
Just as a reminder, Volume II pre-orders are still open, but if you can’t get a copy right now, then just wait for Connecticon! I will be debuting Volume II in person there! That is, if my planning and timing works out with Ka-Blam printing it. Cross your fingers, everyone!
Now speaking of ConnectiCon, there is a new voting incentive on TopWebComics! It’s a peek at what I’m working on for ConnectiCon’s program cover art contest. Garanos needs more votes! We started off strong at the beginning of last month, but I’m a bit lower in the ranking here at the beginning of this month. (I blame the short vacation from updating, which is my own fault anyway.)
Last but not least, some art! This is the Volume II cover art and the picture of Garanos that I colored at my Photoshop panel at ColossalCon.
(If you follow my art blog, you will have already seen these! ^_^)
HEY GUYS! I just found out my location in ConnectiCon’s Artist Colony, and I’m too excited not to post it right away. I’ll be at table 32!
Here’s a mirror of the Artist Colony layout (PDF) so you can check out where everyone is!
